Concept of a Beverage Research Centre |

In order Lithuanian beverage manufactures would be provided with conditions to develop products capable of outrivaling international brands, the ABBI cluster uniting the beverage industry together with scientists of Kaunas University of Technology started developing the project of establishment of a Beverage Research Centre.
It is necessary to establish such a centre in order to manufacture unique products known for exceptional quality, tastes and packages. Complex researches, trial production would be carried out in the Beverage Research Centre including creation of product packages, collection of information about markets, conducting of consumer behaviour researches. It is planned to install advanced laboratory and trial production equipment in the laboratories which would allow to more effectively developing business and scientific projects. It will be attempted that all equipment would be as much related with production plants as possible in order all production processes could be repeated and the same quality products would be manufactured.
Planned structure of a Beverage Research Centre:
• Division of packaging researches consisting of a design department, bottle and other container department, corking technology department;
• Beverage research centre consisting of a laboratory, liquid research department, ingredient and taste research department;
• Trial production division: fermentation department, soft drink production department, ingredient production department, distilled product production department, packaging department;
• Market research department consisting of statistics department and consumer behaviour research department.
• Training and conference division.
Students will also be allowed to use the beverage research centre for educational and research purposes. It is planned to also research product functionality. It includes energetic drinks, drinks containing antioxidants, vitamins. There has never been a similar centre in Lithuania yet.
According to preliminary calculations, investments in the Beverage Research Centre could reach LTL 15 – 25 mln. The ABBI cluster is attempting to receive the financial assistance of EU structural funds.
